Just re- read through it all - we have that many ideas blowing around it's getting a little wild - really we need to settle on something as a starting point. So far things agreed on: Trolls, kind'a Dystopian, 'us' against the unknown 'them'. so it's obvious we have a bit of fantasy in there we need to nail down the genre. So Far : Blown out of Book, Afterlife, Space Exploration, Evil Government in Post apocalyptic, you guys ever play dreamfall? Arcadia had a cool setting, some kind of strong government that kept all magical creatures down trodden and favored normal humans - but in the real world... What else? ...A collision of worlds (I guess another form of reality rip)One planet has been swung out of reality and is merging with the planet earth - the collision is killing both planets and something needs to be done to split them up and set them back n track... The barriers to parallel worlds are falling - gates opening all over th place - the planet is a timebomb - things need to be set straight. An ancient library - the books in one room of this library all lead to different worlds and someone is messing with them. Pulling things into our world sending things into there worlds dunno why but we could get tangled into that mess somehow - we could all be from different books thrown into one story. just thinking aloud. probably thinking too much.

Cool, I like the idea of the library and all being from different books. Is it wrong that my first thought was that I could be from 'Practical accountancy for beginners'?

Any one would be fun. Do you and Fruitbat have thoughts? Is one going to be easier to manage from a game point of view?

From a game point of view anything can happen the lands we are in (whatever land we go for) won't make the game any more or less difficult / easy so long as we have a rough idea what we're talking about. Dunno what fruitbat has to say she hasn't been online yet today.

Hello. Sorry for the silence - a few things have been happening back in the real world, unfortunately, but I am back now. I have read through all the suggestions so far and I really like the idea of a library and the books all leading to different worlds too. My thought is that we could each create a different world (the one that we are from, obviously) represented by the books and the world that we are all in (presumably wherever the library is housed) has been cast into turmoil by the actions of the Trolls - perhaps they are the ones messing with the books? As we have somehow ended up in the 'library world', it becomes our job to tackle the Troll problem and the dilemma might be how we go about this. Thoughts?? My book? I was thinking 'Fitness and Goth: the ultimate dichotomy and how to bridge it' Well, something like that!

I guess if we are all happy with the idea of the main characters escaping from books into a library, we need to decide how that escape comes about and what the goal is. I was thinking it could be: An accident of nature such as a magical storm just at the right time and place.
Deliberate with unforeseen consequences such as in the story world the priests or wizards or scholars bring the books to life in a special room rather than reading them and our characters escape.
Accidental in a human way such as a spell gone wrong.
Were our books printed on paper especially created to hold spells, by mistake, with unforeseen consequences for a normal book? Or if it's a real world type world: could the paper be from a tree in the amazon that was some kind of Shamen's totem?
Just typing what I'm thinking really. Ohh more random thoughts...
Getting home is a decent goal but would we want to go back in a book if we revert to unthinking words? Or could our goal be to anchor ourselves in the library so we go on existing.
If we have been summoned from a book we might be given a mission by the summoner during which we need to trick him so that we don't get banished back into the book.
I'm a bit stuck along fantasy lines at the moment. Although if our books were made from some kind of Shamens tree we could do something similar in a more real world setting.
I'm not attached to any of my ideas just putting stuff out for discussion.

Hi, I love the idea of the books being brought to life by some kind of library guardians. That I can really imagine. The idea of them being from a special/magical tree would also work well, I feel too. I guess we now need to connect the trolls and their mischief with the books to the wizards/guardians and their role in all this. Hmmm. Food for thought. I guess we can wait and see what Kei thinks next! Bye for now!

Sorry for my own absence guys (I really need to figure out a way to get the internet at home - something I will be looking into this week as I missed this over the long weekend)You both seem to be doing great, Books coming to life in a library probably created from a shamans tree for the use of these librarian gaurdians who bring them to life.
Could be some kind'a war going on in this world we're being dragged into. The trolls are part of the opposing team and are tryiong to destroy the library which could be the source of the guardians army to strike back. They could be the heart of the city. The magistrate / guardians / wise leading groups that civilians see as the bosses kind'a thing. Again I'm just thinking out loud. The trolls team has been long suppressed and living in the wild, they have mustered an army to make life equal for them and the other races.
We could be pulled out on purpose by a librarian guardian who is wounded and so pulls random characters out of the nearest book to his own defense hence we could be thrown into a world of chaos and we need to set things right eventually making peace between lands and turning the library into some kind'a portal where we can all travel in and out of books as we please.
I think i'm gonna be from some kind'a elvish book maybe something like "Elves: The Language, The Lore, The Lands"

My proposed rough outline:
Librarians from the great library of somewhere cool sounding, send out librarians throughout known space collecting copies of every book in the universe (most they have downloaded onto their interstellar Kindle via amazon).
The librarian dispatched to one particular planet has crash landed, damaging his ship and injuring himself. In order to survive he has used his secret librarian powers to pull forth characters from the books he had taken to studying enroute. The books are rather an eclectic mix as he is composing a treaty on something which links them, possibly fashion and lifestyle in humanoids throughout the ages.
The characters have to help him sort his injuries out and are then tasked with retrieving the books he was sent to find. Some are easy to find as the main inhabitants of the planet have them. The other is hard to find as it is a troll book. The trolls are repressed and live in caves in a remote area.
During the adventure the unfairness of the repression of the trolls is unmasked and we work to redress this.
At some point my character will resort to stereotype and hit someone with an axe, cheering him up no end.

Good idea - great outline. Looks like we have a basic starting point if fruitbat is in agreement - we can sort out finer details as we go.
A good starting point would be a jointly written chapter (prologue) Where this librarians story is told up to the point of crashing. Then we would all have to write a brief individual piece as the next chapter introducing our character and what we were doing when pulled out of our books.

A great start - I think there could be plenty of mileage in the characters' retrieval of the books - that some may have started to re-write themselves based on their new location - for example, some may have landed in the sea and are becoming seafaring adventures or travel books, which they were never meant to be. This could add a level of urgency to the characters who have been sent to find the books to get them back before the change is irrevocable and the library will lose important works. Perhaps I am over complicating things too!
I am sure that my character will at some stage break down and cry about something but will be comforted by a strange animal, native to the planet, who becomes her faithful guardian on the journey.

I love that idea - i'm sure we can un-complicate it as we work through the story gathering these books and fixing things up. I think this is coming together well, and am willing to get it started. I shall open a section for the story writing to begin.
